The Ryde Heritage Trail and Gladesville Heritage Trail booklets vividly capture the rich tapestry of these local areas, powerfully evoking a sense of life back in the 1800's.

The updated booklets provide the ultimate guided trip down memory lane, revealing new locations and photos.

We now have an online Ryde Heritage Trail interactive map which offers a bird's eye view of the area, pinpointing 28 historic buildings, churches and other significant sites.

Gladesville Heritage Trail interactive map features 20 historic sites, with traces of the past seen in the present landscape.

There are post offices, cottages, butchers, parks, street art, and smaller historic gems that make for a fascinating journey through time in the local neighbourhood.

There are also modern significant buildings, and all within a two-kilometre radius!

Explorers can use the interactive map to plot their journey and keep a mobile phone handy, or take along the complimentary booklet for a more tactile experience.

They can take a step back in time, uncovering the fascinating local history of many structures sitting in plain sight.

Residents might have driven past many of these sites every day - now there is a wonderful opportunity to plan a half-day excursion to discover and build a stronger connection with your neighbourhood.

These meticulously researched and presented booklets were updated with the support of Heritage NSW through the 2023-25 Community Heritage Grant.

A morning tea was held recently to thank the Ryde District Historical Society for their valued contribution, ongoing research and support in making Ryde's heritage available to the community.

The Ryde Heritage Trail and Gladesville Heritage Trail booklets are available in City of Ryde libraries and on the Heritage Trail Booklets page of our website where you will also find the interactive map. Visit our Heritage page to find out more about history in the City of Ryde.
