Hey mum, I'll be late

He might have thought he was making good time, but a willingness to ignore the speed limit meant a teenage driver was later than expected last night, Victoria Police say.

Police from the State Highway Patrol (West) intercepted the Holden Commodore on Mickleham Road, Greenvale about 9.30pm.

The vehicle had been detected travelling at 169km/h in the 80km/h zone.

The driver, an 18-year-old Gladstone Park man who had only had his provisionary licence for a month, told police he was on his way to pick up his mum.

He will be charged on summons with traffic offences.

The driver was also unable to pick up his mum as his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $917.
