High-ranking OMCG member charged over the possession of child abuse material, NSW

Detectives have charged a high-ranking member of an outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) after allegedly locating child abuse material during an investigation into an unrelated matter, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Estop was established by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting of 29-year-old Mehmet Yilmaz at St Marys on Friday 9 September 2016.

As part of the ongoing investigation, strike force detectives executed a number of search warrants last year, which included the seizure of a computer from a home at Millers Point.

During a forensic examination of the computer, investigators located images deemed as child exploitation material on the hard drive.

Following further inquiries, Strike Force Estop detectives arrested a 41-year-old man at an apartment complex at Millers Point shortly before 10am yesterday (Thursday 26 April 2018).

The man, who is a high-ranking member of the Lone Wolf OMCG, was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with possess child abuse material.

He was refused bail and appeared at Central Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court later today (Friday 27 April 2018).

Investigators also executed a search warrant with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad at a home unit at Millers Point, just before 6pm yesterday.

During the search, police seized a laptop, a mobile phone, suspected prohibited drugs, steroids, unknown tablets, photographs, and documentation.

Two men, aged 26 and 24, were spoken to at the home and released pending further inquiries.

Inquiries are continuing, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Yilmaz’s death are ongoing.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Estop investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
