A man has received fines worth more than $1800 and has had his license suspended after being detected travelling 75 kilometres over the speed limit while affected by alcohol at Torrington.
On June 3 police were conducting mobile patrols along Carrington Road when they observed a blue Honda CRV being driven at high speed at around 6pm.
The 21-year-old man was detected travelling at 135km/hr in a 60km/hr zone prior to being intercepted.
He is also alleged to have returned a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of .117% back at the police station.
The driver from Highfields was fined $1,854, lost 8 demerit points and a six month driver licence suspension.
Officer in Charge of Highway Patrol Toowoomba Senior Sergeant Kim Hill said there is no excuse for this type of driving behaviour on our roads.
"When someone decides to drive at high speeds while under the influence of alcohol, they not only put their own life at risk but other road users.
"No family should have to go through the pain of losing a loved one through road trauma because of someone's poor decision making."
"Mobile patrols like these are about keeping our roads safe for all road users and motorists can expect we will be anywhere at any time," said Senior Sergeant Hill.
The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.
Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the 'Fatal Five' behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.
