The Australian Defence Force will be better supported following the opening of a new, high-tech facility in Sydney.
The Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, officially opened Safran Electronics and Defense Australasia’s new state-of-the-art workshop in Sydney’s south today.
Minister Pyne said that Safran already delivers and supports complex systems to a variety of ADF platforms including the Collins class submarines and the MRH-90 and Tiger helicopters.
"This new facility is a vote of confidence in the defence industry and will let Safran better support the ADF," Minister Pyne said.
The facility has around 100 square metres of new workrooms including a state of the art clean room, laser room, a climatic chamber and specialised equipment, as well as approximately 200 square metres of office space for 25 people with room for expansion for up to 50 people.
Safran’s workforce has increased from 11 to 25 in just over a year and the company is projecting even further growth in the year to come.
Minister Pyne also noted the extensive work that Safran is doing in collaboration with Australian academic institutions.
"Safran has developed apprenticeship programs covering mechanics, logistics and business management," Minister Pyne said.
"This will ensure that Safran and other Australian defence companies have access to a trained, highly skilled workforce well into the future."
