Hiker Located Safe In Snowy Mountains

A man who went hiking and skiing in the Snowy Mountains has been located safe.

The 57-year-old man commenced back country skiing and hiking from Guthega Power Station located in the Snowy Mountains – Kosciuszko National Park on Thursday 4 September 2025.

He was last heard from on Saturday 6 September 2025; however, was unable to be contacted or located since then.

When he failed to return, officers from Riverina Police District and Monaro Police District were alerted and commenced inquiries into Cameron's whereabouts, including a land and air search involving local police, SES (Alpine Search and Rescue), PolAir, Rural Fire Service, Police Rescue Squad, Wireless Radio Network Services, and National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Following ongoing searches, about 1pm today (Sunday 14 September 2025), the man was located safe in the Snowy Mountains back country area near Valentines Hut, in the Kosciuszko National Park.

The man did not require medical treatment.

Police would like to thank the public, the emergency services involved in the search and the media for their assistance.

Police would also like to remind members of the public that when heading out for a hike or a bushwalk, people should have a fully-charged mobile phone, along with additional charging devices.

Additionally, hikers are urged to take a GPS-enabled Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) and submit a Trip Intention Form with the appropriate agency, such as the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
