HKU holds Flag-raising ceremony for the New Year

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) celebrated the arrival of the new year with a flag-raising ceremony at the Grand Hall, Centennial Campus today (1 Jan). President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Xiang Zhang, together with members of the Council, Senate, faculties, staff, students at the University, and invited guests, participated in the ceremony.

The ceremony symbolised the start of the year, highlighting a particularly meaningful moment as HKU celebrates its 115th anniversary and advances its vision to become "a world-leading university transforming humanity's future".

In 2025, HKU achieved remarkable milestones on the global stage, securing 1st place in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, placing at the top spot in Asia. Additionally, HKU rose to 11th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The University also set a new record with 54 academics named in Clarivate's "Highly Cited Researchers 2025" list, ranking 13th globally among all institutions. These achievements highlight HKU's solid standing as a global leader in academia and innovation. The University will continue to reinforce its unique position as a global nexus of knowledge, bridging East and West while pioneering AI-driven education and research.
