The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received generous donations from alumni Mr. Terry TSANG and Mr. Terence TSANG, to support the University's initiatives in education, research, and student development. In recognition of their longstanding commitment and their parents' selfless contributions to society, the University has proudly named University Residence Tower A as "Tsang Chiu Sang Tower" and Tower B as "Lam Po Yu Tower". This tribute celebrates the Tsang family's enduring devotion, perseverance, and lasting bond with the HKUST community.
A naming ceremony for Tsang Chiu Sang Tower and Lam Po Yu Tower was recently held. The ceremony was officiated by HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM, Council Vice-Chairperson Ms. Edith SHIH, President Prof. Nancy IP, donor and Council member Mr. Terry Tsang, donor Mr. Terence Tsang, and the donors' sister Ms. TSANG Chui-Lin. Other senior members of the University were also in attendance.
Mr. Terry Tsang remarked, "My father served at HKUST in the early 1990s, and I feel deeply honored to have been able to contribute to the University alongside him at different times." Mr. Terence Tsang added, "I will care for my family through consistent and sustained actions and extend this philosophy to HKUST."
Prof. Harry Shum commended the two alumni for their longstanding support to the University, stating, "The Tsang brothers have embodied the spirit of 'Go Big, and Go Home', together with the kindness and generosity their parents instilled in them. They have consistently given back to their alma mater by supporting a wide range of university initiatives in education, research, and student development. Their actions set a powerful example for the next generation, demonstrating the profound impact of generosity on the community. As HKUST celebrates its 35th anniversary, it is the steadfast commitment and support of alumni like the Tsang brothers that light our path forward. Their belief in our mission propels us to pioneer interdisciplinary education, foster a global outlook, and provide a dynamic platform for groundbreaking research and transformative learning."
Prof. Nancy Ip expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the two alumni for their generous donations, which have significantly advanced the University's educational and research endeavors. She remarked, "The Tsang brothers are not only accomplished entrepreneurs but also exemplary models of innovation and perseverance. Beyond their generous contributions to the University, they are deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders by sharing invaluable insights from their entrepreneurial journeys, offering guidance on career development, and providing job opportunities for graduates. This will enable our young talent to hone their practical skills and excel in the workplace. We are profoundly grateful to the Tsang brothers for their leadership, for transforming their personal gratitude into a lasting legacy of support, and for helping to pave the way for our students to achieve their aspirations."
The Tsang brothers are distinguished HKUST alumni and successful entrepreneurs who founded Mad Head Limited, one of Hong Kong's leading mobile gaming companies. Their flagship title "Tower of Saviors" has garnered widespread acclaim, amassing over 23 million downloads worldwide.
The Tsang family's connection to HKUST began in 1990, when Mr. TSANG Chiu-Sang joined the University as a campus security guard. Remembered for his diligence, warmth, and generosity, he left an indelible impression on all who knew him. Mr. Tsang passed away in 2004 while his sons were still students. With assistance from HKUST's emergency fund, the brothers were able to continue and complete their studies. During that difficult time, Mrs. LAM Po-Yu became the family's anchor, devoting herself to ensuring her sons' education proceeded uninterrupted.
After graduation, the Tsang brothers committed themselves to giving back to HKUST by joining the HKUST Convocation Committee and actively engaging in alumni affairs. Over the years, they have generously supported the University's pursuit of excellence in education and research, including a significant donation in 2016 to the Student Emergency Fund, which provides crucial aid to HKUST students facing unexpected financial hardship. In appreciation, the University named the atrium of the Lee Shau Kee Business Building and Computational Laboratory Barn A in their honor.
