HMCTS Names New Non-Executive Director

Nick Fishwick has an extensive foreign affairs background, having worked at senior levels for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for over 25 years. From 1984 until 2012, he worked in various roles within the United Kingdom as well as abroad.

For the last 11 years, he has advised HSBC (including six years as a non-executive director for HSBC Latin America) focusing on the management of financial crime, security, cyber and related risks.

Commenting on the appointment, Sir Richard Broadbent, Chairman of the HMCTS Board, said:

I'm delighted that Nick has joined the HMCTS Board. His expertise and experience of the Civil Service and financial sector, notably in the areas of risk, financial crime and cyber security, together with his research skills and experience in managing complex discussions will be invaluable to us.

Nick joined the Board on Tuesday 2 January 2024.

As part of the Board, the primary role of non-executive directors is to contribute to the effective delivery of the organisation's goals by:

  • monitoring operational performance and identifying potential under-performance
  • contributing to and over-seeing the development of strategy
  • ensuring high standards of corporate governance
  • ensuring that controls are in place to manage risk
