The City of Hobart is celebrating Human Rights Day with the launch of phase two campaign of 'Hobart Respects All'.
'Hobart Respects All' invites individuals, businesses, and organisations to actively contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and respectful community.
Welcoming and Inclusive City Portfolio Chair Cr Dr Zelinda Sherlock said we all have a part to play in creating a safe city that welcomes everyone no matter their background, race, religion, ethnicity, age, sexuality, gender or abilities.
"Today we have brought the community together to sing, speak, listen and, with the help of the community sewing hub Frangipani Fabrics, create a string of bunting that represents the diverse fabric of our community," Cr Dr Sherlock said.
"'Hobart Respects All' is not just a campaign, it's a pledge to build a community where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected.
"As we launch this initiative on the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we stand united in our commitment to upholding its principles of freedom, dignity, respect, and equality."
Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sarah Bolt said one only has to look at the conflicts overseas to realise how the protection of 'Human Rights' is.
"The Hobart Respects All Campaign is a positive step towards the elimination of discrimination and making Tasmania a safe, kind, inclusive and respectful place to live," Ms Bolt said.
This year the 'Hobart Respects All' message will be a feature of the Taste of Summer Hobart Community Day, sponsored once again by the City of Hobart.
The Hobart Community Day will see free entry for everyone on New Year's Eve up until 4pm.
Cr Dr Zelinda Sherlock said with the 'Hobart Respects All' message front of mind the Taste of Summer Hobart Community Day will be a celebration of our diversity.
"The bunting that the community decorates today will be on display at the Hobart Community Day and we will be sharing the Hobart Respects All message," Cr Dr Sherlock said.
"We will be pushing tables together banquet style so everyone can feel the sense of community eating together.
"There will be family programming across the site and the Taste will be showcasing Tasmania's multicultural cuisine and giving the stage to young musicians and cultural performances.
"The Taste of Summer prides itself on being an inclusive event and with free entry on Hobart Community Day it really is accessible to everyone."
