Hodgman asleep at wheel on traffic congestion

Tasmanian Labor
  • Southern Outlet crash brings traffic to a standstill
  • Government has no plan to fix worsening traffic congestion
  • Commuters from the Channel and Huon Valley have again been caught in gridlock following a crash on the Southern Outlet this morning.

Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure David O'Byrne said the Hodgman Government had done nothing to improve congestion on Tasmanian roads.

"After five and a half years, Tasmanians are stuck on our roads for much longer due to Will Hodgman's inaction," Mr O'Byrne said.

"Governments should have a long term strategy to combat congestion but the Liberals have delayed its 30 year infrastructure strategy three times.

"Many of its much-heralded infrastructure projects have been delayed because they've wrecked the Budget and projects like the Hobart underground bus mall and the roundabout at the airport are going nowhere.

"Will Hodgman's failure to build the infrastructure Tasmanians need is a handbrake on our economy and a real safety risk for Tasmanians and their families.

"Everyone late to work or school drop-off this morning has Will Hodgman and his lazy, hands-off Government to thank for it."

    David O'Byrne MP

Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure
