Hodgman fails to back under-fire Ferguson

Tasmanian Labor

The Premier has given Michael Ferguson the most lukewarm defence of a Government Minister in living memory.

In his interview on ABC radio, Premier Will Hodgman failed to commit to keeping the failing Health Minister in the job.

"We know from the Auditor-General's report that Tasmania's health system is getting worse by the day," Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said.

"We know from the RDME report that there is a $100 million annual black hole in health funding.

"We know from the constant pleas from doctors, nurses and health professionals that under Michael Ferguson, people are dying needlessly in our hospitals.

"Liberal Speaker Sue Hickey said that Michael Ferguson needs a rest.

"Even the Premier's former right hand man, Brad Stansfield, has called for Michael Ferguson to be replaced.

"Almost no-one supports Michael Ferguson and Tasmanians will be hoping that it is only a matter of time until the Premier works up the courage to sack him."
