Holden & Sharni Layton driving force for girls in sport

Partnering with Holden Australia, star netballer Sharni Layton is calling on sporting clubs across Australia to apply for a Home Ground Advantage grant, before applications close on 31 August.

This round of grants is dedicated to sporting clubs and community organisations that embrace and promote girls’ participation in sport, a shared passion for Holden and Sharni.

“Holden Home Ground Advantage grants can help clubs provide the right equipment and facilities to get more girls involved in sport - either with a professional career in mind or just for the fun of it.” said Sharni.

“I will always be grateful for the opportunities given to me by my sporting clubs - from my days as a junior through to the elite level playing for Australia. Netball has helped me find my inner competitive nature and the appreciation of teammates,” Sharni added.

Sharni Layton is one of four Australian female sporting stars to join to the call for local clubs to apply for a Home Ground Advantage grant. Holden Ambassador and Australian Diamonds and ALFW player Ash Brazill, Jillaroo Ruan Sims and Iron Woman Jordan Mercer are all on the same team when it comes to encouraging the next generation of girls to give sport a go.

The Holden Home Ground Advantage program was launched in 2014 to help grassroots sport grow in Australia.

Holden’s new Chairman and Managing Director Dave Buttner said Holden was excited to play a role in helping girls reach their sporting potential with a financial boost from the program.

“We’re excited by supporting local communities. With over 120 sporting clubs across Australia already benefitting from Home Ground Advantage, it’s rewarding to see the positive impact of the program on both participants and the wider community,” Dave said.

Applications close 31 August and sporting clubs of all codes dedicated to increasing female participation are encouraged to apply.
