Police are investigating after a man and woman, aged in their 70s, were robbed in their Newcastle region home overnight, NSW Police say.
About 9.45pm today, police were called to a home on Scenic Drive, Merewether Heights, following reports of a home invasion.
Police have been told a man aged 79 and a woman aged 78 were sitting in their lounge room watching television, when two men, one armed with a knife, entered the rear door of their home.
The men demanded money before leaving with cash and a handbag.
Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations into the incident.
A crime scene was established at the home.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
