A 36-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries after a man died in Childers this afternoon.
Around 2.30pm a Mitsubishi Pajero was travelling on North Street when the driver stopped behind a silver Subaru Liberty at the pedestrian crossing near Hinkler Street. The Subaru has reversed into the Pajero. The driver of the Pajero, a 65-year-old Howard man, got out to inspect the damage and the Subaru Liberty has reversed into him. The driver of the Subaru has then allegedly got out and punched the 65-year-old man multiple times in the head, before driving off.
At 2.38pm a man was walking on Whitebridge Road at North Isis, when a man in a silver sedan stopped and allegedly punched him in the head before hitting him with a metal pole. The 78-year-old North Isis man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.
At 2.53pm a silver sedan stopped, and the driver allegedly assaulted a 66-year-old man on Crescent Street at the intersection of Lord Street in Childers. Members of the public restrained the man, and police arrested him a short time later.
Earlier, the same silver Subaru Liberty was allegedly involved in a traffic crash on the Bruce Highway at Glenorchy when the vehicle deliberated reversed into a Tesla. The driver of the Subaru verbally abused the driver of the Tesla before driving off around 1.45pm.
The victims in all these matters are not believed to be known to the 36-year-old man.
The 65-year-old man was transported to Bundaberg Hospital with serious head injuries. The 66-year-old man was also transported to hospital with neck injuries.
