There are so many people in the Bega Valley quietly making a difference supporting their community who deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick encourages everyone in the shire to take a good look around their circle - their family, their neighbours, at work, in their sports club or community group - and consider nominating someone who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to their community for an Australia Day award.
"Each year on Australia Day, we celebrate individuals whose selfless dedication enriches our community and inspires those around them," Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
"Our shire is blessed with countless people who give freely of their time and energy, lifting others and weaving the fabric of a stronger, kinder community.
"Our Australia Day Award categories are Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and we also have Bega Valley Medallions.
"Last year's award recipients were celebrated for their unwavering service: empowering young people, providing meals to those in need, and volunteering across a range of local groups. Their stories remind us that our community thrives because of those who give without hesitation.
"I invite the shire's community to reflect on the past 12 months and nominate someone who has made a meaningful difference, often quietly and without expectation of recognition.
"Being nominated for an Australia Day Award is an honour in itself, a testament to the lasting value of kindness, generosity and hope.
"If you know a person who tirelessly dedicates themselves to the wellbeing of others, please consider nominating them for this year's awards.
"This is our chance to publicly thank and celebrate those who make the Bega Valley a better place for everyone.
"Let's come together to shine a light on the quiet heroes among us. Submit your nomination and help us honour the heart and soul of our community at the Australia Day Awards on 26 January 2026.
Nominations will be accepted up to Friday 28 November. For more information on how to nominate, please visit our Australia Day webpage.
