Hooning Offences In Darwin 16 February

The Northern Territory Police Force has seized a vehicle after witnessing dangerous hooning behaviour in East Arm on Saturday night.

Around 11pm, police patrols were conducting proactive traffic enforcement near the intersection of Dawson St and Lilwall Road when a Mitsubishi Triton 4x4 was spotted performing a burnout in the presence of several bystanders.

Officers immediately activated lights and sirens, bringing the behaviour to a stop and preventing further risk to the public.

The 31‑year‑old male driver was issued an infringement for loss of traction, and the vehicle was seized and impounded for 48 hours in accordance with the NT's anti‑hooning legislation.

This incident follows several recent vehicle seizures in the East Arm precinct, police advise that the area will attract increased scrutiny and compliance enforcement as part of ongoing efforts to curb dangerous driving behaviour.

Senior Sergeant Dev Kanyilmaz reiterated hooning behaviour is dangerous and will not be tolerated, with vehicles subject to seizure and further penalties under Territory law.

"Police will continue to target dangerous driving behaviour. Hooning is reckless, irresponsible and puts the community at risk. If you choose to endanger others, you can expect to lose your vehicle."
