The Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange (HRLE) was buzzing on Wednesday with a smaller yarding generating strong buyer demand that led to a record-breaking lamb sale.
More than 1,915 lambs and 1,346 mutton were yarded, with a standout pen of extra heavy lambs from the Goroke area reaching a remarkable $466 per head — smashing the previous local record of $403 set in May this year.
The record-setting sale highlights the strength of the region's producers and the ongoing importance of supply and demand in driving competitive prices for quality livestock.
Mayor Cr Ian Ross praised the achievement, saying:
"It's fantastic to see this level of quality and performance at our local exchange. Setting a state record here in Horsham is a credit to the vendor, the agents, and everyone involved in the industry."
"The Horsham Regional Livestock Exchange continues to showcase the excellence of our regional producers and their vital role in Victoria's agricultural economy."
Council congratulates the vendors and thanks all involved in making HRLE a leading livestock selling centre.
