House fire in Lidcombe

An elderly man is in hospital after house fire in Lidcombe. , NSW Police say

Police and emergency services were called about to Maud Street about 12.50am (Monday 26 February 2018) after witnesses smelt smoke coming from the premises.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and removed an 84-year-old man from the home who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

He has been taken to Westmead Hospital where he is understood to be in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established which is being examined by forensic specialists.

While the cause is still being investigated, the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and is not considered suspicious at this stage.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
