House fire uncovers hydro-set up, near Gosford, NSW

Emergency services have uncovered a suspected hydroponic set up following a house fire north of Gosford today, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to the home in Holly Avenue, Narara, shortly after 5am today, where they found the home well alight.

Preliminary inspections revealed a hydroponic set up of up to 20 cannabis plants in the upstairs main bedroom of the home, where the fire is believed to have originated.

The fire has been extinguished and police will remain on scene until the arrival of specialist officers who will forensically examine the scene.

The home sustained significant damage.

No one was injured or home during the incident.

About 10.15am today officers from Brisbane Water Local Area Command stopped a Land Cruiser a short distance from the home.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly located and seized 20 cannabis seedlings. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with possess prohibited plant and cultivate prohibited plant.

He was refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court tomorrow.
