House Of Representatives, 90 Second Statements

Liberal Party of Australia

Deputy Speaker, on the one hand, Labor hands out welfare and house deposits to non-citizens.

On the other hand, Labor is cutting the private health insurance rebate for Australians aged 65 and over.

What a disgrace.

This rebate is an important discount that reduces costs for older Australians.

Australians who pay higher premiums because they need the extra cover, for knee replacements, cataracts surgery, seeing a heart specialist in a timely manner.

But Labor doesn't give a damn about these older Australians.

Australians who have worked hard, paid taxes all their life, raised families, and helped build this country.

With Labor's policy, millions of Australians will pay more for private health insurance.

And according to new research, some 40 per cent of Australians aged 65 and over will likely drop their private health cover altogether.

And where will these Australians go?

Straight into the public health system.

And that means more pressure on every Australian in that system.

More pressure on already stressed public hospitals.

More queues, more ramping, more taxes and more debt for the states and territories.

Misguided and mean-spirited.

That's this socialist Labor Government to a tee.
