Following recent reports of dumped rubbish impacting private property, Hume City Council is reminding residents of the steps they can take to manage and prevent illegal dumping.
If you've found dumped waste on your property, especially when it has spread from neighbouring land, here's what you can do:
What to do:
Report the dumped rubbish to Council online or by phone.
If the rubbish appears to come from a nearby private block, and you know the landowner, try to notify them directly.
Take photos and note the location and date of the dumping.
Fencing your land
Vacant block owners can act by fencing or securing their property to discourage illegal dumping.
Consider security cameras or lighting.
Before installing any fences, bollards or retaining walls, check Council's guidelines and building requirements: www.hume.vic.gov.au/Building-and-Planning/Building-and-Renovations/Fencing-and-Retaining-Walls
Council offers free waste disposal options including:
Hard waste collections
Access to the Resource Recovery Centres
Hume Clean Days
Bundled branch collections
