This change is in response to feedback from the community and caravan industry. While caravans are used less than the average vehicle, they provide a means to new experiences and exploring the country.
Customers who register or renew a privately-registered caravan or purpose-built camper trailer, from 225kg up to 4.5 tonnes, are eligible for the reduction. Pensioners who receive free registration for a vehicle other than their caravan or camper trailer, are still eligible for the 40 per cent discount.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said caravan owners will now save up to $471 dollars off their rego.
"Not only will this put money back into hip pockets, it will encourage more people to travel and do business in NSW," Mr Perrottet said.
The new tax reduction forms part of the NSW Government’s program of rebates and savings to help reduce the cost of living.
