Police have located human remains in bushland in the Southern Highlands.
A member of the public alerted police after finding skeletal remains of a person in bushland north of Lake Alexandra, about 2pm yesterday (Saturday 16 December 2017).
A crime scene was established and has been examined by specialist forensics officers.
A post mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to formally identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
However, it’s believed the deceased is a 52-year-old woman who was reported missing from her home in Mittagong in June 2017.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner, NSW Police say.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
