Human Skeletal Remains Located In Huon Valley Bushland, TAS

Police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains located in an area of remote bushland in the Huon Valley last Sunday, Tasmania Police say.

The remains were located by two Hobart men bushwalking in an area of forest around 10 kilometres from the Tahune Airwalk.

The remains appear have been there for a number of years and the identity of the deceased is not yet known.

Items located near the remains indicate the person may have been bushwalking at the time of their death but was not prepared for an overnight journey.

Also located was a backpack containing a quantity of Swiss Francs and Hong Kong Dollars with receipts the currency was exchange in Zurich, Switzerland, on 21 December 2010.

Investigations are ongoing including the possibility the deceased was reported as a missing person interstate or overseas.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
