Hume City Council Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusion

Hume City Council is deeply concerned by the upcoming anti-immigration protests planned for Sunday 31 August.

Council unequivocally rejects all forms of hate speech, racism, and discrimination and stands firm in its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful community for all.

As one of Australia's most culturally and linguistically diverse municipalities, Hume is home to people from more than 160 countries, speaking over 100 languages. Our diversity is our strength, and Council remains committed to building bridges across communities, not walls.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Cr Jarrod Bell:

"Hume City Council will not tolerate extremist rhetoric or actions that seek to sow fear and division. Our community stands united, firm, and unshakable in the face of hate."

"As local leaders, we are committed to proactive measures that protect our residents and celebrate the vibrant diversity that defines Hume. Inclusion is not negotiable; it is our foundation."

"I call on every member of our community to reject hate loudly and clearly. Together, we must stand stronger, promote understanding, and ensure that everyone feels safe, welcome, and empowered to belong."
