The election results for Hume City's inaugural Youth Council are in, with 12 young community members elected by their peers.
The result comes after more than 3300 young people aged 11 to 17 cast votes at 19 polling locations across the Hume area throughout October.
Hume City Council Mayor, Cr. Jarrod Bell said the Young Mayors program gives young people a voice in shaping the Hume community's future. "It's inspiring to witness such a diverse group of young leaders ready to make a difference," he said.
The Hume Youth Council will be sworn into their first term in December 2025 and will serve a 12-month term in office from January to December 2026. They will have a $10,000 budget to deliver their priority agenda.
The Hume Youth Council is a partnership between Hume City Council and the Foundation for Young Australians, a pilot program being delivered with local Councils in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.
