The Minns Labor Government is continuing work to improve one of Australia's busiest freight and transport corridors, with the next stage of a major upgrade to the Hume Highway at Table Top to begin later this month.
Transport for NSW is upgrading a 3.3 kilometre section of the northbound lanes and a 3.15 kilometre section of the southbound lanes, delivering a smoother, safer and more durable road surface while reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
Work includes road reconstruction and resurfacing, drainage improvements, new safety barriers, updated signs and line marking.
The first stage of the project, covering the southern 1.65 kilometres of the northbound lanes and upgrades to two crossovers, was completed in June 2026.
The next stage will upgrade the remaining 1.65 kilometres of the northbound lanes, with work planned to start on Friday 18 September and take around 12 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Stage three, covering the southbound lanes, will be carried out next financial year.
During stage two, the Tynan Road intersection with the Hume Highway will close from Friday 25 September, with changed traffic conditions also in place at the Burma Road intersection.
Traffic controls and temporary safety measures will be in place throughout the work to safely manage vehicles through the area and minimise risks while crews are working near the intersections.
Motorists will use the same detours and traffic arrangements that were successfully implemented during the first stage of work.
At least one lane will remain open in each direction during construction.
Motorists should expect lane closures, contraflow arrangements on the southbound lanes and reduced speed limits through the work zone.
Most work will be carried out Monday to Friday between 6am and 11pm, and on Saturdays between 7am and 5pm.
