Hundreds of teams take on Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane

WHAT: About 1000 people from around the state and beyond will be putting their best foot forward to help people in poverty around the world later this week when the 2019 Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane event kicks off on Friday 21 June at Mt Glorious' Maiala Picnic Ground.

About 230 teams are registered to walk or run the 2019 Brisbane event – the teams have already raised more than $500,000 towards Oxfam's work empowering communities around the world to lift themselves out of poverty. The event hopes to raise $800,000 towards Oxfam's lifesaving work.

WHEN: On Friday 21 June, teams registered for the 100km event will set off in two waves at 7am and 8.30am. Teams of four in the 55km event will start at 7am on Saturday 22 June.

Participants in both events will trek through the Brisbane hills en route to the finish line in Mt Coot-tha – they will have 48 hours to complete the 100km trail or 24 hours to complete the 55km trail, which begins at Lake Manchester.

WHO: Trailwalker Brisbane 2019 is a large event involving thousands of people, including:

o About 1000 participants will walk or run the trail this year and 500 volunteers - including trail marshals, trail officials, physios, podiatrists and massage therapists - will volunteer their time to help walkers along the way;

o About 750 people will act as support crew to teams of walkers by helping them at the start line, at checkpoints along the trail and at the finish line.

o Oxfam Australia's CEO Dr Helen Szoke will be at the start line on Friday 21 June and
