A man will appear at court today after a police pursuit following a break-in in Wallsend near Newcastle last night, NSW Police say.
Shortly after 10.30pm yesterday, police were called to a unit in Victory Parade, Wallsend following reports of a break-in in progress.
Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command noticed a vehicle matching the description of one involved in the earlier break-in travelling through Jesmond.
After losing sight of the vehicle for a short time, police sighted the vehicle again travelling north on the Pacific Highway at Sandgate, and initiated a police pursuit in Heatherbrae.
The pursuit travelled through Heatherbrae, Williamtown and Tomago. Road spikes were used to stop the car soon after. A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station.
He was charged with possess unauthorised pistol, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, goods suspected stolen in/on premises, drive , licence suspended under section 66 Fines Act, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place and owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
