A man and a woman have been arrested after the discovery of a hydroponic set-up following a police pursuit in Bathurst yesterday. , NSW Police say
Shortly before 3pm yesterday, officers from Chifley Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a silver Ford Falcon on Lambert Street.
The vehicle failed to stop and drove onto the front lawn of a home on Lambert Street. The driver got out and ran into the premises.
Police arrested a 33-year-old man inside the home, whom further inquires revealed to be unlicensed. He was subjected to a random drug test which returned a positive result.
The test will be sent for further laboratory analysis.
Whilst at the home, police allegedly discovered a hydroponic set-up, equipment and a number of cannabis plants.
A 21-year-old woman was also arrested and issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for cultivate prohibited plant (small quantity) to appear at Bathurst Local Court on Monday 6 March 2017.
The man was released pending further inquiries.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the states Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said that this arrest highlighted the presence of Highway Patrol Officers on our roads.
"Whilst our focus will always be road safety, our officers are there to ensure that those committing other crimes are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
"What started out as a routine traffic stop has led the discovery of a drug cultivation operation and a woman before the courts. This highlights the commitment of our highway patrol officers in identifying, investigating, and putting those responsible before the courts." Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said.
