Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey’s "The Dark Tower" adds cast

Katheryn Winnick will be joining Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in The Dark Tower, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Based on the Stephen King-penned fantasy series, the film will follow a wandering knight (Elba) who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis, the Man in Black (McConaughey).

Tom Taylor and Fran Kranz will also appear in the Sony project, which has already begun production.

Nikolaj Arcei is set to direct the adaption, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer producing under their Imagine Entertainment banner. King and Erica Huggins will also act as producers, with Jeff Pinkner executive producing.

Winnick stars in History Channel's Vikings and will next be seen opposite Gerard Butler in Warner Bros.' Geostorm.
