A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged importation of illicit drugs in the Illawarra region.
Strike Force Ridgecrest was established by investigators from the Southern Region Enforcement Squad (RES), to investigate the importation of border-controlled drugs to the Illawarra.
On Thursday 5 November 2020, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers detected six kilograms of Gamma butyrolactone (GBL) in an international mail shipment from Belgium.
Acting on information from the ABF, strike force investigators arrested a 38-year-old man at a home on Lake View Parade, Primbee, about 10am yesterday (Wednesday 18 November 2020).
A short time later, a search warrant was executed at the home, where officers seized an additional two kilograms of Gamma butyrolactone (GBL).
The man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with import commercial quantity of border controlled drug and supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity).
Police will allege the man purchased six kilograms of Gamma butyrolactone (GBL) from Belgium in October 2020, with the intention of importing it to an address in Primbee.
The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 19 November 2020).
Inquiries are continuing.
