Images released as investigations continue into serious crash at Cooma

CCTV Images and vision have now been released as investigations continue into a crash that left a police officer with serious head injuries in the states Southern Region last month.

About 8.20pm on Monday 30 August 2021, officers from Monaro Police District were in pursuit of a confirmed stolen utility on the Monaro Highway, Nimmitabel, about 10km outside of Cooma.

The ute stopped, and the driver got out of the car and started to run. The police officers also stopped, and the male officer got out of the car and commenced a foot pursuit.

The man was seen getting into a white Audi two-door sedan which has then collided with the policeman.

The Constable suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital. He has since been released and is recovering at home.

A crime scene was established as investigations into the crash commenced by officers from Monaro Police District.

Detectives have released images and vision of the stolen Audi which was found burnt out in the ACT on Tuesday 31 August 2021.

The Audi was captured on CCTV in the township of Cooma about 4.05pm, then on Polo Flat Road about 4.07pm on Monday 30 August 2021, and then headed south to Nimmitabel – the same day the collision occurred.

They are calling for anyone who may have any information, including dash cam vision, that may assist detectives they are encouraged to call officers at Monaro Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
