Hawkesbury City Council is making some important changes at some of our City's playgrounds in the interest of community safety.
Council regularly inspects the condition of our local playgrounds in line with its rolling schedule of upgrades and replacements to ensure that our playgrounds are safe and continue to serve the needs of the community. Council also monitors the usage of its playgrounds to determine where the demand is.
Council needs to carefully allocate playgrounds where they are most needed while strictly managing its parks budget. Sometimes that means difficult decisions need to be made to prioritise the maintaining, upgrade or replacement of some playgrounds over others. For example, with considerable investment being made into play spaces at Woodbury Reserve, some rationalisation of smaller playgrounds in Glossoida may occur.
The playgrounds at North Richmond Community Precinct and McMahon Park at Kurrajong have reached the end of life and have now been temporarily closed. Brand new playgrounds are currently being planned for these sites, however recent inspections have revealed that the play equipment currently onsite is no longer safe for use due to age and wear and tear.
Several play items at Andrew Town Park in Hobartville, Grand Parade Reserve in Glossodia and Bowen Mountain Park will soon be removed due to their poor condition and risks these posed to the safety of the public. The remaining play items will continue to be available and will be maintained by Council, however there are no current plans to replace the now-removed play items.
All play equipment at Chestnut Drive at Glossodia, and Matheson Park at Kurrajong will be removed. There are no current plans to replace the playgrounds at these locations.
Council apologises for any inconvenience or disappointment caused by the changes and closure of these playgrounds, however community safety is Council's highest priority.
