Impound at Smythes Creek

State Highway Patrol officers allegedly detected a driver travelling at 102km/h in a 60km/h zone on Cherry Flat Road in Smythes Creek earlier today.

The black Holden Maloo ute was detected about 12.25pm.

Police intercepted the ute and the driver underwent an oral fluid test which returned a positive result.

The 36-year-old from Smythes Creek had his car immediately impounded and faces towing costs of $1325.

He is expected to be charged with numerous traffic offences including exceeding speed limit and driving with a cancelled licence.

This intercept forms part of Operation Amadeus which is targeting speeding and impaired drivers in rural areas.
