Improvements for Glenelg beach access and walkways

Access points and walkways onto Glenelg Beach are being upgraded and will include the construction of a fully accessible beach ramp next to Glenelg Jetty.

Construction is due to start next week on the first three of six access points which are located between the jetty and the Broadway Kiosk.

The works will consist of both ramps and stairways which will improve accessibility to the beach for members of the community, have greater ability to cope with fluctuating sand levels and reduce maintenance requirements for Council.

Some access points will be closed during the construction phase, with nearby walkways to remain open.

Advanced notice signage will be installed prior to the improvements getting underway.

The coast path closest to the beach will be closed during construction to allow machinery to operate safely, however the path further inland will remain open at all times.

Once the six walkways have been upgraded, work will then start on the construction of the beach access ramp next to Glenelg Jetty.

The ramp will be Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant and will provide year-round wheelchair access to Glenelg beach.
