Improving facilities at Mt Field National Park

Mark Shelton,Liberal Member for Lyons

Construction has begun to repair and upgrade visitor facilities at the much loved huts within the Mt Field National Park.

Set in the alpine area along Lake Dobson Road, the upgrades will see new toilet facilities installed for visitors, bushwalkers and skiers staying overnight in the accommodation.

The new building will mirror the weathered historical look of the adjacent huts, and recladding has been done using hand split palings, in keeping with the original build and to maintain the heritage feel of the site.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed funding for this project under our $31 million Taking our National Parks to the next level plan which is improving the sustainability of our parks and reserves across the state.

The new amenities have been designed to cope with the dramatic changes in weather conditions, which are experienced at this alpine site, with the pre-fabricated structure being largely constructed offsite to reduce environmental impact.
