Improving our policing facilities in Derwent Valley

A tender to build a new police station in New Norfolk has been released today as part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to keeping Tasmanians safe and stimulating the economy as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

The outdated existing station will be demolished to make way for a new contemporary station that has the capacity, space and security requirements to respond to the community’s needs, as part of the Government’s $5 million commitment.

Importantly, the new station will better support effective and modern policing services into the future, meeting the expected growth in the Derwent Valley.

In February, New Norfolk police moved to a temporary premises to ensure the continuity of policing services to the New Norfolk community during the demolition and construction phases of the project.

In consultation with representatives from New Norfolk station, Bridgewater Division and other key stakeholders, HBV Architects has finalised the detailed drawings and specifications, with the tender documents released today.

This contemporary, fit for purpose station will have an overall footprint of 1,061m2 and through its modern design will be well placed to provide long term support to the Derwent Valley area, as well as the broader community.

The Government is committed to ensuring Tasmania Police has the resources needed to protect our communities and keep Tasmanians safe, which includes delivering an additional 125 front line officers over four years.

This project will also provide an important boost to the Tasmanian economy, and support local jobs at a time when we need it most as we rebuild following the pandemic.
