Inadvertent release from custody in Southport, QLD

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a boy inadvertently released from the Southport Watchhouse this morning, Queensland Police say.

The 15-year-old boy was at the Southport Court this morning to be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act in relation to the alleged attempted robbery of a girl at Helensvale on May 4.

He was charged with attempted robbery threatening violence.

Two boys were in a cell at the Southport Watchhouse, one due for release, the other to be remanded in custody.

When police called out the name of the boy to be released, the other boy stepped forward and was mistakenly let to leave.

A coordinated search for the boy is underway, however he has not yet been located.

The boy is described as Caucasian in appearance, of a slim build, around 176 centimetres tall with light brown hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing long black trousers and a dark blue shirt.

Anyone who may have seen the boy should contact police on 131 444.
