Representatives from the United States and Thailand convened for the inaugural United States-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue in a virtual format on October 27. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis R. Fannon and Thai Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Kulit Sombatsiri led the delegations.

The discussion reinforced the role of energy cooperation in strengthening the U.S.-Thai partnership and focused on growing energy markets, developing renewable energy opportunities, and expanding power sector integration in ASEAN and the Mekong region. The two countries recognized the importance of ongoing bilateral cooperation, with an emphasis on promoting commercial engagement. In addition, both delegations reviewed the progress of current energy projects in Thailand and established priorities for future cooperation and technical support.

The United States and Thailand discussed plans to hold a second, in-person, dialogue in Thailand with business leaders once travel conditions allow, and to expand U.S.-Thai cooperation in clean energy supply chains, as well as in the oil and gas, alternative energy, energy efficiency, and power generation sectors.
