Townsville City Council is reminding residents that tubing and freestyle jet-skiing is prohibited at Black Weir following a recent increase in these prohibited activities.
Planning and Development Committee Chairman, Councillor Les Walker, said it was important everyone followed the rules when using that stretch of the Ross River.
"There is no freestyle jet-skiing allowed on Black Weir. Jet skis can only be used to tow water skiers," Cr Walker said.
"Uncontrolled water-skiing accessories like tubes and sea-biscuits are also prohibited from being used at Black Weir.
"Council works closely with the Queensland Police Service Water Police to make sure the Ross River is as safe as it can be for the public.
"This rule is in place for the safety of everyone using this section of the river and penalties apply if this rule is broken."
Division 4 Councillor Mark Molachino said activity time for zones A and B could be booked by members of the public.
"There is high demand for use of Black Weir, so all water skiers need to get a permit from Council to use Black Weir," Cr Molachino said.
"You can book up to seven days in advance. Each permit is valid for one hour, but you can book up to three hours in one day.
"Boating and fishing vessels don't need a permit to be in zones A and B."

Anyone not intending to use a booking must complete an online cancellation.
Failure to cancel an unused booking online can result in a one month ban on the person or vessel involved.
