Indecent treatment charge, Gold Coast

Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit have charged a man for allegedly photographing and filming children in shopping centre restrooms, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged on August 6 a man who worked for a business within a Biggera Waters shopping centre followed a 15-year-old male customer into a public toilet and photographed him without consent.

The boy noticed the phone and then advised his father of the incident.

The father located the man allegedly responsible and detained him until police arrived.

It will be further alleged that once taken into custody, police located an additional video of two children on the man’s phone believed to have been filmed in the toilets of a restroom at a Southport shopping centre on June 26.

A 27-year-old Southport man was charged with indecent treatment of a child under 16, possessing child exploitation material, making child exploitation material and observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

He was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
