Indigo Power Appointed To Deliver Regional Battery Project For Pomonal

Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to announce that Indigo Power has been selected to deliver the 'Powering Resilience in the Regions' battery project for Pomonal, following a comprehensive tender process coordinated by the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA) in collaboration with 10 councils.

Indigo Power's appointment marks an important step toward strengthening local energy resilience for our community, with a strong focus on local upskilling and tailored solutions to maximise community benefit.

The project will see a battery installed at Pomonal Hall, designed specifically to provide backup power to this vital community facility in the event of a grid outage or emergency event. Indigo Power's flexible approach to supporting local needs and making the most of available grant funding was key to their selection.

Indigo Power will also upskill council and community members to operate the battery for long-term sustainability.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison welcomed the news: "This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the commitment of regional councils to deliver for our communities. Indigo Power's proposal demonstrates a strong focus on practical outcomes and local opportunities, and we look forward to seeing Pomonal benefit from enhanced energy resilience and community capacity building. We are proud to play our part alongside CVGA and our fellow councils in making this happen."

Indigo Power's track record of delivering reliable renewable energy solutions for regional communities, along with their flexible approach and commitment to local capacity building, were highlighted by the evaluation panel as clear strengths.

Powering Resilience in the Regions is supported by the Victorian Government through the 100 Neighbourhood Batteries program (Round 2).

This initiative forms part of a wider effort by Ararat Rural City Council and project partners to create energy security, support local businesses, and promote ongoing sustainability for the broader region. For ongoing progress reports on this major project, visit the Engage Ararat website.
