Townsville City Council has opened a new tender for land within the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct, inviting Australian and international industry to establish operations in one of the country's most significant advanced manufacturing and processing hubs.
Land parcels are now available at the 2,200-hectare Precinct at Calcium, approximately 40 kilometres south of the Townsville CBD, with tenders assessed through recurring quarterly evaluation rounds.
Positioned to become Australia's first environmentally sustainable advanced manufacturing, technology and processing hub, the Precinct will be developed over the next 20 years and is forecast to support more than 5,000 construction jobs, around 1,600 initial operational jobs and more than 9,100 indirect jobs.
Council is seeking proposals from proponents in priority sectors including critical minerals processing, renewable technology manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, defence industries, clean energy generation and storage, digital infrastructure, and circular economy and sustainable industries.
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said the tender was an open invitation to industry to be part of the region's next chapter.
"Lansdown is where North Queensland's industrial future is taking shape. We have the land, the zoning, the road and rail connections, and a direct line to the Port of Townsville and Townsville Airport, and we are inviting industry to take up this opportunity," Cr Dametto said.
"Council has done the heavy lifting to de-risk this site. The Precinct is zoned for high impact industry, it has been declared a prescribed project by the State, and we are delivering the enabling road and raw water infrastructure that will get projects moving. What we want now is the right proponents with the right projects."
The Precinct sits immediately adjacent to the North Queensland Gas Pipeline, close to the Woodstock Ergon substation and Powerlink transmission network, and on the Mount Isa to Townsville rail line. A future water pipeline connection to the Haughton Pipeline will provide raw water supply for industrial users.
Council has already conditionally allocated land to multiple industry proponents through earlier tender rounds since 2019. Remaining parcels are identified in the tender's supporting documents, available on request through VendorPanel.
