Industry leaders are finally off the Complaints Register

NSW Fair Trading has published the December Complaints Register with noticeably fewer traders from the real estate and electronics industry appearing this month.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner, Rose Webb said she was glad to see that reoccurring traders had appeared to have lifted their standard of service to customers.

"With over 45,000 complaints recorded from consumers every year, a publicly listed Complaints Register provides businesses the incentive to deliver better customer service -  and helps consumers make informed decisions about where they choose to shop," Ms Webb said.

The Complaints Register also revealed that a number of motor dealers across the State were causing concerns for consumers, including Mazda Australia, Ozcar and Sutton Motors, each with 10 complaints largely related to repairs, maintenance and used cars.

Online booking platform, Hotel Quickly, appeared on the Complaints Register for the first time, with 12 complaints relating to accommodation and food.

"As we’ve seen with other industries, we hope that these traders work cooperatively with the Fair Trading case managers, to recognise and address any marketplace trends that may affect consumers," Ms Webb said.

Fair Trading also received a number of complaints about Bestjet in December, a business placed into external administration and administrators appointed in December 2018. Fair Trading advises consumers to contact the administrator directly or for those who have paid by credit and debit card, to contact their credit provider to discuss applying for a credit card chargeback.

"Be assured, Fair Trading will continue to work with traders that appear on the Complaints Register recurrently, to ensure consumer rights are maintained," Ms Webb said.
