A new report by outgoing acting Principal Commissioner for Children and Young People, Meena Singh, has confirmed ten infants under five months old, within Victoria's child protection system have died following authorities failing to follow safety guidelines.
The Commissioner's report reveals heartbreaking cases whereby vulnerable children were placed at unacceptable risk, cumulative harm was not recognised and mandatory safety guidelines were not followed.
Shadow Minister for Children, Nicole Werner, said: "After more than a decade in government, Labor's continued mismanagement is resulting in avoidable deaths and tragic outcomes occurring far too often within our child protection system.
"Vulnerable children deserve better. The Victorian Liberal and Nationals will continue to call for greater oversight and stronger safeguards to prevent tragic cases like these from continuing to occur."
