Mitchell Shire Council has welcomed the release of Infrastructure Victoria's 30-Year Infrastructure Strategy, which recognises the need for a new train station at Beveridge and duplication of the Upfield Line - two major priorities for Mitchell's fast-growing community.
Recommendation 12 of the Strategy confirms the need for a new station at Beveridge on the Seymour line - a significant improvement on the earlier draft, which failed to acknowledge this vital project.
The Strategy also calls for duplication and extension of the Upfield Line, which would improve capacity and reliability for residents in Melbourne's north and create a stronger link between the existing network and growth communities in Beveridge, Wallan and beyond.
Mayor John Dougall said the recognition of these projects was a major win for Mitchell Shire and its residents.
"This is a really positive outcome for our community. The need for a train station at Beveridge and duplication of the Upfield Line has been central to our advocacy for years," Cr Dougall said.
