Inland Rail community pop-up for Broadford residents

Inland Rail team members will be available to talk about the bridge replacements planned for the Short Street, Hamilton Street and Marchbanks Road sites.

A review of options to allow double-stacked freight trains to safely pass under Short Street bridge, including investigations into a track lower, bridge replacement or hybrid solution has concluded and determined a bridge replacement is the recommended design solution.

Construction works for a track lower would cause significant noise disruption to the community and potentially impact the structural integrity of the existing bridge.

Ed Walker, ARTC General Manager Projects Victoria and South Australia said:

"We are currently working on the reference design for each of the Broadford sites, which are due to be completed and shared with the community in 2023.

"The community have told us safety, connectivity and amenity are important to them and this will be reflected in the reference designs.

"We will also continue to investigate opportunities to reduce the overall height of the new bridges.

"When the designs are released, the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback and input into the look and feel of the area, including urban design elements."
