Inmate Death Probed at Alice Springs Jail

The Northern Territory Police Force is investigating after a male prisoner died shortly after collapsing at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre yesterday afternoon.

Around 5:40pm, police received reports that a 35-year-old male prisoner had collapsed. Staff commenced CPR before St John Ambulance personnel took over and the male was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Initial investigations indicate the male died as a result of a medical episode and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The death is being treated as a death in custody as the male was in the care of the Department of Corrections.
